@jumoke525, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand your HP printer is displaying an "E" on the screen along with a blinking orange icon, and it's preventing you from printing. I’ll be happy to help you resolve this issue.
The "E" typically indicates an error state, and the blinking orange light (often the attention light) signals that the printer needs your attention due to one of the following:
- Paper jam
- Ink cartridge issue
- Paper size mismatch
- Printhead or scanner error
Steps to Troubleshoot:
Identify the Specific Error Code
If your printer shows something like E1, E3, E5, etc., it helps pinpoint the issue. Please check the printer display for any additional numbers or icons next to the "E".
You can refer to this HP support page for a full list of error codes and their meanings: HP DeskJet, ENVY 6000, 6400 - Blinking lights and error codes
Basic Reset
Try a simple reset:
- With the printer powered on, unplug the power cord from the back.
- Wait for 60 seconds.
- Plug the power cord back in and turn the printer on.
Check for Paper Jams
- Open all access doors and trays.
- Remove any jammed paper carefully.
- Make sure the paper is loaded correctly in the tray.
Check Ink Cartridges
- Open the cartridge access door.
- Remove and reseat both cartridges.
- Clean the cartridge contacts gently with a lint-free cloth.
- Close the door and check if the error clears.
Check Paper Settings
If the error is E1 or E2, it may be due to a mismatch between the paper size in the tray and the print settings. Make sure:
- The correct paper size is selected in the print dialog box.
- The paper loaded matches the selected size.
Use HP Smart App
If the issue persists, open the HP Smart app on your computer or mobile device. It can help diagnose and fix many common issues.
