A warm welcome to HP Support Community!
A grinding noise is typically cause by a carriage stall, paper jam, loose gears or rollers. Power resetting the printer, clearing any possible carriage jam and cleaning the paper feed rollers may resolve the issue. Let's try these steps:
1.) Use the steps available here to clear any possible carriage jam/paper jam.
2.) Make sure this printer is plugged into a direct wall, not a surge protector
3.) Remove all of your ink cartridges from the printer and close the door
4.) Remove the power cord from the back of the printer (Do no press the power button)
5.) Plug the power cord back into the printer
6.) Wait for the printer to turn on completely, then install the ink cartridges.
7.) Clean the paper feed rollers, refer to step's 5, 6 and 7 from this document.
Let me know how it goes!
