Hi @Printer59,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP OfficeJet 5740 e-All-in-One printer keeps printing continuously until manually turned off, there could be a few reasons for this behavior. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try.

  • Check Printer Settings: Ensure that there are no print jobs stuck in the print queue on your computer. Sometimes, a pending print job can cause the printer to keep printing.
  • Restart Printer: Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for a few minutes, then plug it back in and turn it on again. This can sometimes resolve temporary glitches.
  • Update Printer Firmware: Check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer on the HP website. Updating the firmware can fix bugs and improve performance.
  • Reset Printer: Perform a factory reset on the printer. Refer to the printer's manual for instructions on how to do this. Be aware that this will erase any custom settings you've configured.
  • Check for Hardware Issues: Ensure that there are no physical obstructions or damaged parts inside the printer that could be causing it to malfunction. Also, check if any sensors or switches are stuck.
  • Driver Reinstallation: Reinstall the printer drivers on your computer. Sometimes, corrupted driver files can cause strange behavior.

By following these steps, you should be able to troubleshoot the issue with your HP OfficeJet 5740 printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
