Thanks for stopping by the HP community. A very good day to you I will be glad to assist you and let’s get right to it. Fabulous description and superb diagnosis of the issue. It is amply appreciated.
Let me gather some information for better clarity to assist you correctly:
- Did it stop printing after a power outage or surge?
- Did it stop printing after a recent software or Windows update?
- Did your un HP print and scan doctor and check if it gets fixed?
Meanwhile, I will be providing a roadmap with some troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue. Let us try these steps
- Update the printer’s firmware by following instructions from this link: https://support.hp.com/bg-en/document/c02919168
- Use a USB cable to update the printer’s firmware.
Then from this link: https://support.hp.com/in-en/product/hp-officejet-pro-8710-all-in-one-printer-series/7902014/documen... (Step 1: Restart the computer, printer, and router)
Now check if the issue gets fixed.
If it continues, try running HP print and scan doctor from this link: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c02073861
Check for issue resolution.
if the issue continues, then uninstall and reinstall the printer drivers at the root level by following these instructions:
- Uninstall the printer from "programs and features" which can be accessed by doing a right-click on the Windows button (Please have the printer Off and disconnected during uninstallation.)
- Check in device manager, if the printer is listed there, please delete it. (Right click on the Windows button to access device manager)
- Go to devices and printers, in the control panel and select any printer listed there and you will get some options on the top.
- Click on print server properties.
- You will get a popup, click on the drivers tab and delete all the HP printer drivers listed there if any.
- Delete all the instances of your printer listed in devices and printers.
- Restart the PC.
- Once the PC is on the desktop, press Win + R, it would bring a Run dialog box,
- Type %temp% in the run box and click Ok or hit the Enter button.
- It would bring up the temporary files folder. Delete the files in the folder (You might not be able to delete all the files).
- If possible, delete the printer from the registries using Regedit or using any other 3rd party application.
- Ignore the Regedit option if it cannot be done.
- Restart the PC again.
Then download the latest full feature driver from https://support.hp.com/in-en/drivers/selfservice/swdetails/hp-officejet-pro-8710-all-in-one-printer-... and install it on the computer after selecting the correct operating system.
Connect the printer to your computer only when the setup prompts for the printer.
- This should fix the issue.
If it persists from the same link "HP Printers - Printer Not Found During Network Driver Setup (Windows)" perform these steps:
- Step 2: Check the network and printer connection status
- Step 3: Manually connect the printer to your network (wireless connections only)
This should resolve it for you.If this does not do the trick, please download the Windows Built-in drivers by following instructions from this link: http://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c01796879
- This should resolve the issue for you. There is an associated YouTube video on how to install it. Please check the steps:
- Step 2: Connect your printer to the computer
- Step 3: Install the print driver with the Add a Printer wizard.
This should do the trick for you.
Good luck and keep me posted about the developments. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue and give the post a Kudos for my efforts to help. Thank you and have a great week ahead. 🙂

Thank you very much for the detailed explanation of how to resolve my issue. I first noticed this after I got a pop up message on my printer that an update was available and did I want to download it. I clicked yes and went on my way. Several days later I discovewred I couldn't print. After trying several fixes and going to the HP forum for help, I deleted the printer via the delete printer function in my control panel. I did go to device manager and made sure I deleted it there as well. I also deleted all software and tried to reinstall. I kept getting the error that the printer was no installed even though I saw it in my devices and printers. I also could not make it my default printer and got error messages that the printer did not have a driver. I tried downloading the driver through HP support but it still would not work. I then googled how to let Windowns driver control my printing and alas that solved the problem.
I will keep your instructions in case this issue comes up again but as long as it is working I will just leave it as is.
Thank you.
