I attempted to connect my printer on my son’s computer via the HP Smart installed on his computer. Did not work but now my hp smart cannot detect my printer anymore. I have tried every solution in the community. (Uninstalled the app/ reset WiFi/ erase the printer driver, unplug the printer) nothing works. It’s so frustrating. The printer still works on my iPhone hp smart app. But not on my computer anymore). Do I just need to return the printer on Amazon?

Hi @Tigaelga
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
can definitely understand how frustrating this situation is, especially after you've tried so many troubleshooting steps. Since your HP printer is still working with your iPhone through the HP Smart app, it seems the printer itself is functioning properly, but the issue seems to be with connecting it to your son's computer via HP Smart.
Let's go through a few more steps that might help resolve the issue before you consider returning the printer:
1. Check Printer Connection on the Computer
Ensure printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network: Since the printer works with your iPhone, it's likely connected to the Wi-Fi network. But double-check that your son’s computer is also on the same network, especially if you have multiple networks or 5GHz and 2.4GHz bands.
Try reconnecting the printer to Wi-Fi: Even though you reset the Wi-Fi, sometimes printers need a fresh Wi-Fi connection. On the printer’s control panel, try connecting it to the Wi-Fi again:
- Go to the Wi-Fi settings on the printer and follow the instructions to reconnect it to the network.
2. Reinstall HP Smart and Printer Drivers
- Completely remove HP Smart and reinstall: You’ve mentioned uninstalling the app, but make sure to also remove the printer from the app before reinstalling. Sometimes the printer might still be “stuck” in the app and prevent it from being detected.
- Uninstall the HP Smart app completely from your son's computer.
- Clear any remaining printer drivers (you can do this from the Control Panel > Devices and Printers, or by using the HP Printer Removal Tool).
- Reboot the computer.
- Reinstall HP Smart from the Microsoft Store and see if it detects the printer after a fresh installation.
- Manually reinstall the printer drivers:
- Go to HP’s official support site and find the correct drivers for your printer model (based on your son’s computer’s operating system).
- Download and install them manually, then try connecting the printer again.
3. Check Firewall and Security Software
Sometimes, firewall settings or antivirus software can block the HP Smart app from detecting the printer. Try temporarily disabling any firewall or antivirus software on your son’s computer and see if the printer shows up in the HP Smart app.
If the printer appears after disabling the security software, you may need to configure the firewall to allow the HP Smart app to communicate with the printer.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
