The printer is not printing and keeps flashing an error message. I’ve turned off to restart, which has not seem to help. I’ve tried to real align with the configuration page, and that also does not seem to work.

Hi @Dbehm,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The "E" error message on an HP printer can indicate various issues. Here's a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot and resolve common problems.

Check for Error Codes or Messages

  1. Error Codes: Look for any accompanying error codes or messages on the printer display. This can provide more specific information about the issue.
  2. Printer Manual: Refer to the printer's user manual for details on specific error codes.

Basic Troubleshooting

Power Cycle the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord from the printer and the wall outlet.
  • Wait for 60 seconds.
  • Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet and then into the printer.
  • Turn on the printer.

Check for Paper Jams:

  • Open all access doors and remove any paper jams.
  • Ensure there is no torn paper stuck inside the printer.

Check Ink or Toner Levels:

  • Ensure that ink or toner cartridges are properly installed and have sufficient ink/toner.
  • Replace any empty or low cartridges.

Check for Connectivity Issues:

  • Ensure that the printer is properly connected to your computer or network.
  • If using a USB connection, try a different USB port or cable.
  • If using a wireless connection, ensure that the printer is connected to the correct Wi-Fi network.

Print a Test Page

  1. Print from Printer Menu: Use the printer’s menu to print a test page. This helps determine if the issue is with the printer hardware or the computer.

  • Install the drivers on your computer.

Reinstall Printer Drivers:

  • Uninstall the existing printer drivers from your computer.
  • Restart your computer.
  • Install the downloaded drivers.

Reset the Printer

  1. Factory Reset:
    • Follow the instructions in your printer’s manual to perform a factory reset. This can resolve many software-related issues.

Check for Firmware Updates

  1. Update Firmware:
    • Go to the HP support website and check for any firmware updates for your printer model.
    • Follow the instructions to update the printer firmware.

By following these steps, you should be able to identify and resolve the issue causing your HP printer to flash an error message and not print.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
