I have two files, one jpeg and one pdf, of a map, size A4.  They look identical when displayed on the screen but when I print, the jpeg is perfect and the pdf has smears across it. This is a brand new printer and I didn't have this problem on my previous HP Photosmart 6510. Any ideas?

Hello @pamhans, Greetings!

Welcome to the HP Forum! This is a wonderful location to converse with the community, get assistance and find tips.

I understand that you are having issues while printing an image in PDF. I would like to help with that.

First of all, I would like to know the app that you are using to open / print PDF files. Are you using “Adobe reader” or some other application?

If you are not using Adobe reader, please install Adobe reader and then try to print the pdf image.

If you are already using the Adobe reader, follow the steps below:

1.Try the "Print as image" option:

  • Choose File > Print, and then click Advanced.
  • Select Print as Image.
  • Click OK to close the Advanced Print Setup dialog box, and then click OK to print.

2. Install the latest update:

  • Open Reader or Acrobat.
  • Choose Help > Check For Updates. If a new update is available, it installs automatically.
  • Once installed, restart your computer.
  • Print the PDF again.

Also, please go through the steps mentioned here: http://hp.care/2dSDxCD

Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance

Cheers 🙂

Thanks for your help.  Ticking the "Print as image" box solved the problem.
