Hi @RattyR,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP printer is stuck with a "Update in Progress" message for an extended period, here are steps you can follow to resolve the issue.
Restart the Printer:
- Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Wait about 60 seconds.
- Plug the printer back into the power source and turn it back on.
Check the Internet Connection:
- Ensure that the printer is connected to a stable internet connection. The update might be pending due to connectivity issues.
Update Printer Firmware Manually:
- Visit the HP Support website and search for your printer model.
- Download the latest firmware update and install it manually on your printer, following the instructions provided on the website.
Factory Reset (use only if necessary, as this will erase all settings):
- Refer to your printer’s user manual for steps to perform a factory reset.
Use HP App:
- Install the HP App on your smartphone or computer.
- Connect the app to your printer, which may facilitate the update process and provide additional troubleshooting options.
Power Cycle:
- If simple restarts don't work, perform a full power cycle:
- Power off the printer and unplug it.
- Turn off your router and modem and unplug them.
- Plug back in and turn on the router and modem first.
- After connectivity is restored, plug in and turn on your printer.
By following these steps, you should be able to resolve the issue of your printer being stuck on an "Update in Progress" screen.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
