I am desperately in need of some help..... I've had a photosmart 5520 all in one printer for over a year, it is set up wirelessly with my HP laptop and until today it has worked perfectly. I changed the ink cartridges yesterday, and did a print and everything was fine. Today I can't see the printer on my laptop.... it's just disappeared. I tried to open the HP print & scan doctor on my desktop, but it is not responding, neither is the printer shortcut icon.
I tried to download the printer driver again from 123.hp.com, and although it has downloaded and saved in my downloaded documents, when I attempt to run it, I get the 'extracting files' then the 'permission' box, but then nothing!
What the heck is going on, and what can I do to repair it?????
I have very limited computer knowledge, so any instructions need to be explained in a VERY basic way!

Hi @lost_the_plot,
Welcome to the HP Community.
I understand you are unable to print with your HP Photosmart 5520, and the software icon is not responding. I will be happy to help.
Lets start the trouble shooting by performing a hard reset on the printer. A hard reset will attempt to restore the printer to a known working condition if that is possible. No user settings are lost with a hard reset.
Hard Reset
Turn the printer on.
With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the unit.
Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
Wait at least 30 seconds.
Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the unit.
If the printer does not turn on by itself, press the Power button to turn it on.
Once the printer has been reset, try reinstalling the HP software. Below I have posted links with steps.
HP Printers - Uninstalling the Printer Software (Windows)
HP Printers - Wireless Printer Setup (Windows) OR HP Printers - Download and Install Printer Driver and Software Via USB
If you are experiencing connection issues when installing the software, try the steps in the link below to troubleshoot.
HP Printers - Printer Not Found During Network Driver Setup (Windows)
Once you have completed the steps in the links above, please get back to me with the results.
