Hello,

HP OfficeJet 3833 started printing only in b/w today. I've followed the instructions with uninstall and reinstall of software and drivers. No issues with cartridges. The initial test page worked, but suddenly when trying to print a document, it came out in b/w again.

If the copy working, this could be a driver issue. Let us try these steps:

  1. On the PC, go to Control panel > Devices and printers > Add a printer(at the top)
  2. Under 'Choose a device or printer', click on 'The printer I want isn't listed'.
  3. Select 'Add a printer using a TCP/IP address'
  4. Find the IP address of the printer by tapping on the wireless icon on the printer screen
  5. Type in the 'IP address in Hostname or IP address' box, click next
  6. Proceed to the next steps by following the on-screen instructions.
  7. Try printing in color.

If the issue persists, Install the printer using Windows built-in driver

Refer to this document to know how. Try printing.

I hope this would resolve this issue.

Hi @stefanop19

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I understand the printer is printing only in black. I'd be happy to assist you.

Try making a standalone copy in color and check if that works. By this, we can conclude if this is a hardware or a driver issue.

Let us try these steps to resolve this issue:

On the printer control panel, touch the Ink icon  to display the current estimated ink levels.

Replace any low or empty ink cartridges.

Clean the ink cartridges

  1. On the printer control panel, swipe the display to the left, and then touch Setup.

  2. Touch Tools, and then touch Clean Cartridges.

  3. If the print quality is unacceptable, touch OK for a Second-level Cleaning when prompted to continue the next level of cleaning.

NOTE: If the ink cartridge nozzles are badly clogged, it might require another cleaning cycle. If so, wait 30 minutes before you perform both levels of cleaning again.

Print a Print Quality Diagnostic page

  1. On the printer control panel, swipe the display to the left, and then touch Setup.

  2. Touch Tools, and then touch Print Quality Report.

  3. Examine the color blocks for defects.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Hi, sorry but cartridges were ok and clean. I followed previous instructions I found in the community uninstalling the printer and all drivers and re-installing everything. I had to that twice and solved the issue the day after my first message. But now I've again the same problem. Everything I try to print comes out in b/w.

It's not a cartridge issue for sure. It must be related to some Win10 updates and/or incompatibilities of the drivers. If this is not solved from an IT point of view the printer is useless. Trial print with the diagnostic comes out in b/w as well despite all dirvers are detected as ok.

@stefanop19, thank you for the response.

  • Did you try making a color copy and check if that works?
  • Also, print a print quality report as mentioned and check if color prints.
  • Let me know the results.

If the printer is able to make a copy and print the test page in color, it means the hardware is working fine and we can troubleshoot on the drivers.

Keep me posted.

Kumar, reply. I've right now tried to copy a color document, simply using the printer display and it printed in color correctly. Still printing in b/w when I send a document in print from the PC.

Arghhh! 🙂
