Hi

My printer is not printing in colour.

I have:

  • Uninstalled all the drivers and reinstalled them multiple times.
  • Checked Windows 10 printing preferences for a print in colour option (it does not exist):

    Printer Pref.png

  • Reset the printer to factory settings and set it all up from scratch using the HP Smart App.

I have used HP Smart to once successfully print a PDF in colour.

However, If i try and print from Word, Acrobat, JPG or any other program, which contains colour - it reverts to grayscale.

Please help, it is driving me mad and it was working until recently. (My OS and all apps are up-to-date).

Welcome to the HP support community.

Perform root level uninstallation to remove all the printer related software's.

  • In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.
  • Select your HP printer.
  • Select Uninstall.
  • In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.
  • In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”
  • Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.
  • Type printui.exe /s and click OK.
  • Click on Drivers tab.
  • Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click Remove at the bottom.
  • Select OK.
  • Remove all instances of the same.
  • Select Apply and OK on the Print Server Properties windows.
  • Close Devices and Printers.
  • Restart the PC again.

Download and install printer full feature driver

Click here to download the driver.

OK so I uninstalled everything, including the basic device driver, HP Help,  HP Smart and HP plugins for Dropbox and GDrive.

When I uninstall the basic device driver I get the following error and the uninstall fails:

However, I went through and reinstalled HP Smart, checked for the latest firmware updates and settings for the printer (there were none).

I went to the printer properties and there is NO print colour option.

  1. I printed a test page from word and it is grayscale.
  2. I printed a test page from PDF and it is grayscale.
  3. I print a PDF via HP Smart and it is grayscale.
  4. I print a 'Print Status Report' directly from the printer and it is colour.

This might require remote access to your computer to fix the issue.

I request you to talk to HP's support.

They might have multiple options to help you with this.

  1. Click on this link - https://support.hp.com/us-en/contact-hp?openCLC=true
  2. Select the country.
  3. Enter the serial of your device.
  4. Select the country from the drop-down.
  5. Click on "Show Options".
  6. Fill the web-form. A case number and phone number will now populate for you.

I hope that helps.
