Have Mac Air Book laptop with wifeless connection to above-note printer.  Printer will print upon command; however, if scanner option selected the response is "no camera or scanner selected."   Solution?

Hi @Warren6542,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP printer prints normally from your MacBook Air but cannot scan, showing “No camera or scanner selected.” Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this.

Check scanner detection in HP Smart / Image Capture
Open the HP Smart app or Image Capture on your Mac.
Ensure your printer appears as a scanner device. If it’s missing, the Mac isn’t detecting the scanner function.

Verify printer connection
Make sure your printer and Mac are on the same Wi-Fi network.
Wi-Fi printing can work even if the scanning service is blocked by network issues.

Restart printer and Mac
Turn the printer off, wait 30 seconds, then power it on again.
Restart your Mac to refresh network connections and scanning services.

Update printer software and drivers
Go to HP’s support site and download the latest HP Easy Start / full-feature driver for your printer and macOS version.
Some scanning issues occur when using AirPrint-only drivers.

Check firewall or security software
Temporarily disable firewall or antivirus software that could block scanner detection.
Ensure the Mac allows network access for HP Smart or scanning apps.

Reset the scanning system
In System Settings → Printers & Scanners, right-click your printer and choose Reset printing system.
Re-add your printer after the reset to restore full printing and scanning functionality.

Test with USB connection
If possible, connect the printer via USB and test scanning.
Successful USB scanning confirms the issue is network-related rather than a scanner hardware fault.

I hope this helps.
