For the past year, my HP Envy printer has been printing incomplete jobs when I first send the print job via wireless. I would cancel, and reprint a second time, which usually works. Recently, the incomplete job order has been repeating every time I hit “Cancel” and I realize it is wasting a lot of ink and paper. I don’t know how to resolve this issue as HP does not offer a solution for it. Does anyone have a similar issue?

I understand how frustrating it can be when your HP Envy printer prints incomplete documents and then repeats the job even after cancellation. Let's walk through some steps to resolve this issue.

Reset the Printing System (Windows/macOS)

Sometimes, the print spooler gets stuck and causes repeated or incomplete jobs.

Windows:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it.
  • On your PC, search for Services and open it.
  • Find Print Spooler, right-click it, and select Stop.
  • Open File Explorer and go to:
    C:\Windows\System32\spool\PRINTERS
    Delete all files in this folder.
  • Restart your computer and printer.

Use HP Smart’s Diagnose & Fix Tool

This tool can automatically detect and fix common printing issues.

  • Download or open the HP Smart app: HP Smart
  • In the app, go to the Diagnose & Fix section.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions.

Cancel Jobs Properly

Make sure you're canceling jobs from both the printer control panel and your computer or mobile device.

Update Firmware and Drivers

Outdated firmware can cause erratic behavior.

Check for Network Interference

Since you're using wireless printing:

  • Ensure your printer is connected to a stable Wi-Fi network.
  • Assign a static IP address to your printer via your router settings to avoid IP conflicts.
