1) Plugged HP D110a printer into new Mac with Sonoma 14.6 OS. Mac recognized printer, but receives "Filter" fail error message. Worked fine with prior Mac w/ Big Sur OS
2) Tried alternate of wifi connection, but HP D110a will not log in to wifi, saying on the test report "No filtering"
Is this a driver issue?

Hi @KKSSTL,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Yes, the "Filter" fail error message you are receiving on your HP Photosmart D110a e-All-in-One printer is most likely a driver issue. This is common when upgrading to a new macOS version (in your case, Sonoma 14.6) that may not have compatible or updated printer drivers available.
Here’s what you can do to resolve this:
Check for updated drivers:
- Go to the HP website and check if there are drivers available for your HP Photosmart D110a compatible with macOS Sonoma 14.6.
- HP Easy Start: HP also offers a utility called HP Easy Start, which can detect your printer and install the latest compatible drivers. You can download it from HP’s support site.
Remove and re-add the printer:
- Go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners.
- Remove the D110a from the list of printers.
- Add the printer again by clicking the + icon. Make sure you select the correct driver or use the “AirPrint” option if no specific driver is available.
Reset the printing system:
- Go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners.
- Right-click (or Control-click) on the printer list and select Reset Printing System. This will remove all printers and reset any printer configurations.
- Re-add your HP D110a as explained above.
Use AirPrint (if available):
If you are unable to find updated drivers, consider using AirPrint, which is macOS's built-in printing system that works without additional drivers. Make sure the D110a is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your Mac.
Wi-Fi Connection Issue:
If the printer is not logging into Wi-Fi, you may need to:
- Reset the printer’s network settings and reconnect it to the network.
- Make sure your Wi-Fi router is not blocking the printer or using any MAC filtering (this could be what "No filtering" refers to in the test report).
- Try connecting it to a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi band if your router has both 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
