@HelenJMoore, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

It sounds like your HP Envy Inspire 7258e printer is having trouble connecting to the right wireless network because it’s detecting multiple networks with the same name (SSID). This can happen if there are multiple routers or access points in your home (or nearby) broadcasting the same network name. The printer may end up connecting to the wrong one, causing issues.

Here are a few steps you can try to resolve the issue:

Change Your Network Name (SSID)

If possible, try changing the name of your wireless network (SSID) to something unique, especially if multiple access points or routers are using the same name. This will make it easier for the printer to connect to the right network.

Forget Other Networks on the Printer

You can try clearing any stored wireless networks in the printer’s settings so it only attempts to connect to the correct one.

Steps to reset network settings on your printer:

On the printer’s control panel, go to Network Settings.

Look for an option to Forget or Clear Wireless Networks or Restore Network Defaults.

After that, restart your printer and follow the steps to connect it to your Wi-Fi again.

Check Router Channels

If multiple networks with the same SSID are causing issues, it might be worth adjusting the wireless channels on your router. Routers typically default to automatic channel selection, which can result in interference if nearby routers are set to the same channel.

Disable 5 GHz Band (Optional)

Some printers may struggle with dual-band networks (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz). If you’re using both bands, try temporarily disabling the 5 GHz band on your router and see if the printer connects more reliably to the 2.4 GHz band.

Manually Connect the Printer

You can also manually input the correct wireless credentials into the printer’s Wi-Fi settings to ensure it connects to the correct network.

Steps to manually connect:

On the printer’s control panel, select Wireless Setup Wizard.

Choose your correct SSID from the list or manually input your network’s details (SSID, password).

Follow the prompts to complete the connection.

Reset the Printer’s Network Settings

If none of the above steps work, you may want to do a full reset on the printer's network settings, which will clear all saved networks and let you set up the Wi-Fi connection from scratch.

Steps:

On the printer’s control panel, navigate to Settings > Network > Restore Network Defaults.

Once you've done that, try reconnecting the printer to the Wi-Fi network.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
