There is a problem with the print head. However, this is not actually the case. Not only was it working just fine before I got the error, but after cleaning it out, it worked just enough to calibrate, and the the error message returned. Then I went and bought a brand new print head, and the exact same thing happened.

Hi @Acrostewart

The “There is a problem with the printhead” message on the HP OfficeJet Pro 8010e can still appear even if the printhead is working or newly replaced. When a new printhead shows the same error, the issue is usually not the printhead—it’s a communication or hardware fault inside the printer (carriage contacts, ink system board, or firmware).

Try the following quick steps:

  1. Power reset – Turn printer on → unplug power from the wall for 60 seconds → plug back in directly to wall.

  2. Remove and reseat printhead and gently clean the copper contacts on both the printhead and carriage.

  3. Update firmware from Setup → Printer Maintenance → Update Printer.
