I am trying to scan a document (as I have done numerous times before), but the HP Smart app on my desktop says the printer is “offline”. Both the printer and computer are on the same wi-fi network and the printer is connected via a cord to the desktop. How do I get the HP smart app to recognize the printer is on-line?

Hi @EFH4,
Welcome to the HP Support Community
I understand you are facing a scan-related issue with your HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus E-All-In-One Printer. Not to worry I will help you to get a resolution to resolve the issue.
To assist better:
- I would suggest you use the print on either wireless or on a USB connection.
- What operating system is running on your device?
- What is the current version of the operating system running on your device?
- How far is the printer located from the WiFi router?
- Do you have a dual-band router?
- If you have a dual-band router and both 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks share the same name/SSID, the printer will not be able to connect to the network. In this case, contact your Internet service provider to assign different names to both networks.
While you respond to that, please follow the below steps to resolve the issue.
Restart your printer, computer, and router to check the connectivity.
- Turn the printer off, and then wait 10 seconds.
- Disconnect the printer power cord from the printer.
- Turn off the computer or the device you are trying to print from.
- Connect the printer power cord to the printer, and then turn on the printer.
- Disconnect the power cord from your wireless router, and then wait 10 seconds.
- Reconnect the power cord to the router. Wait until Internet service is restored. Internet service is interrupted while the router is off.
- Turn on the computer.
