HP Deskjet 2640 All in One Wireless Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My Deskjet 2640 All in One Wireless Printer has stopped printing from my computer. It worked just fine until a couple of weeks ago and I've been trying since then to get it working again. I can still scan documents to my computer and make copies. It still prints Printer Information pages, WI Direct PIN and other such pages.

I do not know what caused it to stop printing documents or webpages, etc. from computer. The only thing I can think of is possibly maintenance software, such as Windows or driver updates or cleanup type software. These are done routinely, .

I have done several different printer troubleshooting apps, both from Windows but mostly from HP website. Nothing has solved the problem. Everything seems to be working fine, my wireless connection is fine.

I had this problem before a couple of months ago, but I'm not sure that I remember how I resolved the problem. I know I spent a lot of time doing it. It seems there was a registry issue.

I did change one of my clean up software programs, uninstalled Advanced System Care by Iobit, But am now using System Mechanic by Iolo. Can someone help me with this please.

Hi @Abuela6

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you

Due to the current global COVID-19 situation, we're seeing an influx of customers coming in for support. We appreciate your patience.

How is the printer connected to the computer?

Could you check the printer status in devices and printer's page?

Let's try a power reset on the printer

Reset the product

  • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Wait at least 60 seconds.
  • Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
  • Reconnect the power cord to the printer.
  • Turn the printer on. HP recommends plugging the printer directly into a wall outlet.

Use HP Print and Scan Doctor

Download HP Print and Scan Doctor and run the program. It will automatically diagnose and fix any printing issues.

Hi Jay,

I apologize for not responding to you sooner. Istill have the same problem. I had already done all of the steps you mentioned, actually 2-3 times with no resolution.

I am connected wirelessly and was able to print just fine before. I had this same  problem of not being able to print last month and finally found a solution but I don't remember what I did to fix it. Printer worked fine for a couple of weeks or so and then I started having the same problem again. I am so frustrated with trying to figure this out and nothing is working so far. I don't know why this is happening unless it's due to Windows updates or other software.

Any more thoughts on things I can try? Thanks for your help.

Let's try and uninstall the printer software from the root level on your PC and install the full feature printer software.

--->In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.

--->Select your HP printer.

--->Select Uninstall.

--->In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.

--->In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”

--->Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.

--->Type printui.exe /s and click OK.

--->Click on the Drivers tab.

--->Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click remove at the bottom.

--->Select OK.

--->Select Apply and OK on the Print Server Properties windows.

--->Close Devices and Printers.

And then reinstall the printer full-featured drivers from software and drivers page

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Tried to remove the driver but am unable to. I was given a choice of removing the driver only or the driver and the package. I wasn't sure so selected driver only and this is error I received. I don't know how to get close the driver that it says I am using/running. So how can I get past this so I can remove the driver?

Remove the driver package.

  • Press Windows Key + X to open Power User Menu. Select Device Manager from the list.
  • When Device Manager opens, select View > Show hidden devices.
  • Delete your printer from Print queues and Printers sections.
  • After you're done, restart your PC
