Hi @Mellymoowho,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP Smart Tank Wireless 450 is giving you an "incompatible cartridges" error but you have tanks, not cartridges, it could be due to a few reasons.
- Incorrect Detection: Sometimes, the printer might incorrectly detect the tanks as incompatible. This can happen due to software or firmware issues.
- Firmware Issue: Check if there’s a firmware update available for your printer. HP sometimes releases updates to fix bugs or compatibility issues.
- Ink System Error: The printer’s internal ink system might be having an issue, even though the tanks are not empty.
Here’s what you can try to resolve the issue:
- Restart the Printer: Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source for about a minute, then plug it back in and turn it on.
- Check for Firmware Updates: Visit the HP website or use the HP Smart app to check for any available firmware updates for your printer.
- Reseat the Tanks: Remove the ink tanks and then reinsert them carefully to ensure they are properly seated. Sometimes, a poor connection can trigger errors.
- Clean the Ink Contacts: Clean the contacts inside the tank slots and the tanks themselves with a soft, dry cloth. Make sure they are dry before reinserting them.
- Reset the Printer: If the above steps don’t work, you might need to perform a factory reset on the printer.
- Check for Physical Damage: Inspect the tanks and the tank slots for any visible damage that could be causing the issue.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
