Brand new printer - when printing a multiple-page document, one page prints and then the printer stops and an orange error light flashes. There is no paper jam, no problems at all as far as I can see and when the error button is pressed as if to acknowledge a fault, the printer resumes and prints all remaining pages.

Welcome to HP Forums,
This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips to your technical queries.
I suggest you do a Hard Reset
(1) Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.
(2) Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
(3) With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
(4) Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
(5) Wait at least 60 seconds.
(6) Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
NOTE: HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet.
(7) Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
(8) Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
The printer might go through a warm-up period. The printer lights might flash, and the carriage might move.
Wait until the warm-up period finishes and your printer is idle and silent before you proceed.
Update the firmware for your printer using this link: https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-officejet-pro-8610-e-all-in-one-printer-series/5367603/docum...
Restart the printer.
Keep me posted, how it goes!
Have a great day!
Cheers:)

Thanks for the suggestion but that has been tried and made no difference. The firmware is already all up to date.
The problem is not occurring on a Mac so it seems as though it lies with my Windows PC. There seems to be no alternative other than returning the printer and finding an alternative which is compatible with my computer.

Thanks for keeping me posted
You can install the Windows Built-In driver and that might help
Uninstall the printer drivers from Root level again and follow the instructions in this Link: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c01796879
You can also try creating a new User Account and check if that helps with printing
-
Select the Start button, then select Settings > Accounts > Family & other people > Add someone else to this PC.
- At the bottom of the page, select I don’t have this person’s sign-in information, and at the bottom of the next page, select Add a user without a Microsoft account.
-
Enter a user name, password, password hint, and then select Next.
-
To make the new account an administrator account, select Start > Settings > Account > Family & other people and select Change account type. Under Account type, select Administrator > OK. Restart your machine and sign in with the new administrator account
Thank you 😊
