Printer fails to update firmware and keeps rebooting and cycling giving me a critical system failure message and trying to update again. I have tried many different methods to update and none of them seem to work. I tried using the Smart app, control panel and dowloanding files to update. I even tried using ethernet and wifi connection and both fail to initiate the update.

@MisterG97, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding printer being stuck in firmware update cycle!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
It sounds like your HP OfficeJet Pro 8135e is stuck in a firmware update loop, which can be tricky to resolve. Since you've already tried multiple update methods without success, here are some troubleshooting steps to break the cycle:
Power Cycle & Reset Printer
Perform a hard reset:
- Unplug the power cable while the printer is ON.
- Wait 60 seconds and then plug it back in.
- If prompted, skip the update and check if the printer boots up normally.
Check for error messages:
- If the printer still reboots in a loop, proceed to the next step.
Update Firmware via USB (Using a PC)
Since the update via Wi-Fi and Ethernet failed, try a direct USB firmware update:
Download the firmware manually:
- Visit HP Support and search for the HP OfficeJet Pro 8135e firmware update.
- Download the latest firmware file.
Use HP Firmware Update Utility:
- Connect your printer to the PC using a USB cable (not Wi-Fi or Ethernet).
- Run the downloaded firmware update file and follow the instructions.
If the update fails:
- Restart both your printer and PC, then try again.

Try Recovery Mode
If the firmware update via USB also fails, you might need to boot the printer into Recovery Mode:
- Turn off the printer.
- Press and hold the Resume (or Cancel) button while turning the printer ON.
- Release the button when the printer enters recovery mode.
- Connect via USB and retry the manual firmware update.
Let me know if this helps!
Take care, and have an amazing day!
