Officejet 7612
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (32-bit)

Hi,

I bought a new printer (HP Officejet 7612 - from the 7610 series) and have installed the software, etc with disc provided, works all fine. I just cant get the actual printer to work, i turned it on and pressed continue to set up and it just says "initializing setup", i have tried connected the printer all different ways to the network, turning it on and off, waiting a few hours, etc. but nothing seems to work. Please help asap. Thanks.

Hi @Jen09,

Welcome to HP Forums, this is a great place to get support, find answers and tips.

Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you.

I understand that you are unable to connect your HP OfficeJet 7612 Wide Format e-All-in-One to the network as you get a message "initializing setup".

This issue could occur if the printer is in error state.

Let's go through a few steps that may help to fix this issue.

And here are a few steps for you listed below:

1. Disconnect the fax or USB cable and then turn the printer on, if it is not already on.
2.With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
3.Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
4.Wait at least 60 seconds.
5.Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
NOTE: HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet.
6.Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
7.Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on. The printer might go through a warm-up period. The printer lights might flash, and the carriage might move.
8.Wait until the warm-up period finishes and your printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

Also, I suggest that you update the firmware from the link: Firmware Update

Let me know how this works.

You have a good day ahead.

Hi.

Thanks for the advice howevev none of it worked. I have done a check on the computer and the error message that appears is as follows:

"Your printers carriage is not able to move freely. check for obstructions in the carriages path such as crumpled paper, especially on inside right of printer. make sure that print cartridges or printheads are installed correctly & the carriage can move freely. Clear any error on printer display, then click retry" - i have tried all of this and it doesnt work!

My computer says it is installed and connected to the network but it cant be if its still displaying on the printer "initilizing setup" it just continues to do this, it hasnt given me any other option tpo do anything on the printer display at anytime, except for to "view demo".

Please help, or have i purchased a broken errored printer?!?

Thank you.

Hello, @Jen09

I see that you were interacting with @Rainbow23. I'd like to jump in with a suggestion 🙂

Are you able to move the carriage inside the printer? Can you remove and reinsert the cartridges? Please try the steps listed below:

  1. Remove the cartridges from the printer.
  2. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  3. Remove USB cable, if present.
  4. Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.
  5. Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord (This is important) and then plug back the power cord to the printer.
  6. Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.

Now, insert the cartridges and then check the printer display. If the display is stuck on "Initialising", then I'm afraid that the printer is having a hardware failure. If that's the case, then I'd suggest you contact the HP phone support to get the printer serviced / replaced.
