printer was working yesterday and both my cartridges are fairly new. when i attempt to print nothing happens. went to my HP doctor to see if it could be fixed a message says to make sure ink cartridges and print heads are correct. my printer doesn't indicate a problem. it says to replace the cartridges or printheads. are printheads part of the cartridge and since they are new cartridges (black/color) not sure which one to replace unless I have to go out and buy new cartridges and they are expensive. wondering if i should replace the black one first since it is cheaper. ??????? can anyone advise?
thanks so much

The printer can operate in single cartridge mode as described in page 14 of the manual here. Remove the color cartridge and send a print job with just the black cartridge installed. If this prints OK then the color cartridge was the issue. If the error is still present remove the black cartridge and install the color cartridge. If the printer now prints the job OK the problem was the black cartridge. You might try cleaning the cartridge contacts as shown in the user manual, page 61.
If one of the carriages is found to be at fault you can check the cartridge warranty (separate from the printer warranty) as shown in the document here.
