I suspect that my printer is not connecting with HP for the purpose of updating my instant ink status and I am not getting ink automatically. I get an error message asking me co connect to HP but can't as it keeps asking for proxy info. I clicked " Auto detect" but that doesn't work. Any suggestions please ?

Hey there! @pickles9188, Thanks for stopping by the HP Support Forums!

I understand the printer is asking you to enter proxy server address and proxy port.

Don't worry I'd like to help you out.

Did you make any software or hardware changes to your PC?

Are you the administrator of your PC?

Excellent description and a great diagnosis done. It is greatly appreciated.

Check the Internet proxy server settings.

For networks that use proxy servers, update the Web Services settings in the printer EWS with the proxy information.

  1. Locate the Internet proxy settings.

    • Windows: Search Windows for Internet, and then click Internet Options in the list of results. On the Internet Properties window, click the Connections tab, select your network, if necessary, and then click Settings.

The network settings menu displays with the proxy settings.

    • Mac: Open System Preferences, and then click Network. On the Network window, click Advanced, click the Proxies tab, and then select your proxy, if necessary.

  2. Write down the Address and Port values for your proxy server connection.

  3. From the EWS, click the Web Services tab, and then click Proxy Settings.

  4. Type the Address and Port values for your proxy server connection, and then click Apply.

  5. Try to turn on Web Services.

Thanks for reply. Unfortunately when I open the windows proxy page there is no address listed. Only the port number 80!

@pickles9188, thanks for your quick response and time.

I appreciate your efforts for writing back to us.

Splendid analysis and remarkable patience shown. It is immensely appreciated.

As you mentioned when you open the proxy page there is no address listed.

Try the steps recommended below and check if it helps.

To bypass a range of IP addresses or a specific domain name, specify the addresses in the proxy exception list:

  1. In Internet Explorer, on the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
  2. On the Connections tab, click LAN Settings.
  3. Click Advanced, and type the appropriate information in the Exceptions area.

Let me know how it goes!

Take Care! 🙂
