HP CLJ E877 MFP

Hi, I have this E87760 MFP printer that we replaced the HDD and reloaded F/W.  Once that was done the printer was network configured and fax configured.  Both IP printing and faxing are working and printing with direct IP printing.

I can also print direct IP to the printer from different locations/subnets that I have been at.

One thing that is occurring is when I try to access the device thru the IP/web is see the following message in any browser or PC that I use for this.... this instead of the web interface.....

The system is initializing.  Please wait...

HP Tech support is saying it is not from them or the printer.

My network and security people are saying it is not from us.

This occurs on the problem printers IP or any IP it is configured on .  Also on another subnet in a different location.

Another printer was setup onsite with the original IP and is working.  Also worked with other IP's at that location.

The formatter/main board was also replaced with the same problems.

Any ideas?

Thanks

If you have access to the printer, can you bring a laptop and connect printer directly to a laptop with a LAN cable and to check it will work?

HI

I ran that connection direct from a laptop to the printer.

Using IPs at 169.254.135.xxx

The laptop I am using is a personal device, not in anyway connected to the network, wired or wireless, ever.

I am able to Ping the printer from the laptop.

When I go to the IP thru Chrome or Edge, to access the printer thru the WEB, I get the same error.

“The System is initializing.  Please Wait.”

The HDD you replaced was the HP original spare HDD or just a plain HDD? You have another printer, is it the same model by any chance, just to swap HDD for testing purposes.

The new HDD that was installed was from HP.  An actual HP encrypted/encryptable HDD.

Again, the HDD install, initialization and F/W install worked as usual.

The printer booted and posted normally with the installing F/W messages, and

on the final restart, setup quickly to the standard control panel.

Just no access to the Web interface.

Also I can PING the IP's as needed without problems.

Is the IP address shown 169.254.... the actual address? I ask because that is of course a private address self-assigned by the printer and might cause issues. I have had models that are slow to bring up the Embedded Web Server but have never seen that behavior. I suggest that you either set the printer to DHCP or a static address that is in your normal address range and try again. Make sure you power cycle the printer after making the network changes as they sometimes do not refresh properly.

My laptop, being not connected to any network, came up with a 169.254.x.x IP.  Normal.

The printer when directly wired to the laptop, acquired the 169.254.x.x address as mentioned.  This is now its manually set static address.

I can ping the printer, I can print to the printer.

The IP is not the problem.  As mentioned before, no matter the IP or subnet or where it is connected, whether on the company network or direct connected, I cannot remote into the printer and get the system is initializing message.

So you are saying that you connected to an actual network with a address that is not in the private 169.254 range and still have that problem? If so, I suggest that you perform a cold reset through the pre-boot menu, format the drive again and install the firmware again.

Currently, because I was asked by someone to direct connect a laptop to the printer via a network cable to test a peer-to-peer connection, is how the laptop came up and then the printer came up with those 169.x.x.x addresses.  There is no physical network connection with the printer or laptop to any work or outside network, wired or wireless.  They talk to each other peer-to-peer, ping, print, etc...  just no web I/F access.

On the original site setup, after new HDD was installed with new F/W, the device was configured with the original IP settings.  Working and pinging, just no web I/F access.   I even DHCP'd on the network a different IP, same thing.  A loaner  printer was installed in place of this problem device, configured with original IPs and it is on line and working, The web I/F works to this loaner device without problems.

I did do a cold reset when onsite originally and had the problem after the HDD and F/W were replaced - No Change.

The HDD was formatted after and F/W was reinstalled - No Change.

The original HDD does not boot, bad with a 99 error, also could not do a partial clean on it originally.

I am going to sleep on this over the weekend.   Not taking this beast home with me!  🙂

Hi,  I do not have another like device nearby.  I also do not want to take a chance on causing a problem with another device by swapping an HDD between them.
