Officejet 8210
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Whenever I set up a page in Word on A4, with 2 columns centred, the printer adds a massive margin to the left every time, no matter how I try to set up printer or page options.

This is my last shot, if this fails the printer goes in the bin and I give up on HP.

@MhSo1,

I have reviewed the post. Thanks for the quick reply. As @Barachiel  is out for the day, I am responding on his behalf. You've displayed great technical flair, immaculate attitude and terrific resilience to try and resolve the issueKudos to you for a job well done. 🙂

  • DId you check the product specs of the printer to see if the paper being used is supported by the printer?
  • Please check the product specifications: http://hp.care/2sG2Xxx under the paper handling option and see if the paper size is supported by the printer.
  • From the specs, I can see that the A4 size is supported.
  •
  • As it is supported, please check printing preferences and how to print from word, by following the options in this link: http://hp.care/2szdQkC HP Printers - Printing Documents (Windows)
  •
  • Please check the printer settings from this link: http://hp.care/2sAAg4H (HP Printers - Print Driver Settings Guide (Windows) (check under Layout and formatting settings)
  • It gives you all the information about your printer's settings.

If the issue continues then uninstall and reinstall the printer drivers at the root level by following these steps:

  • Uninstall the printer from "programs and features" which can be accessed by doing a right-click on the Windows button (Please have the printer Off and disconnected during uninstallation.)
  • Check in device manager, if the printer is listed there, please delete it. (Right click on the Windows button to access device manager)
  • Go to devices and printers, in control panel and select any printer listed there and you will get some options on the top.
  • Click on print server properties.
  • You will get a popup, click on the drivers tab and delete all the HP printer drivers listed there if any.
  • Delete all the instances of your printer listed in devices and printers.
  • Restart the PC.
  • Once the PC is on the desktop, press Win + R, it would bring a Run dialog box,
  • Type %temp% in the run box and click Ok or hit the Enter button.
  • It would bring up the temporary files folder. Delete the files in the folder (You might not be able to delete all the files).
  • If possible, delete the printer from the registries using Regedit or using any other 3rd party application.
  • Ignore the Regedit option if it cannot be done.
  • Restart the PC again.

Then download the latest full feature driver from this link: http://hp.care/2fSRXXB and install it on the computer after selecting the correct operating system.

Connect the printer to your computer only when the setup prompts for the printer.

This should fix the issue.

If this does not do the trick, please download the Windows Built-in drivers by following instructions from this link: http://hp.care/2o3acvH

This will resolve the issue for you.

If required please update the printer firmware also by following instructions from this link: http://hp.care/2rHKwDD

Please perform all these steps patiently as it is critical to resolving the issue. The trick is to remain patient.

Hope this helps. Let me know how it goes. To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help. If this helps, please mark this as Accepted Solution as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles.

Take care and have a blessed week ahead. 🙂

Cheers!

Hi @MhSo1 ,

Thank you for posting on HP Forums,

The Barachiel is at your service.

I understand you are in need of support,

I'll be glad to help you out, however, for an accurate solution I will need more details:

Have you attempted any steps on your own before posting on the HP Forums?

When was the last time it worked without these issues?

In the meantime, please try the steps mentioned below:

Press ctrl+p and once you get the print preview screen, check whether the "normal margins" are selected under margins.

Please reply with the details for further assistance.

Eager to help!

Tried printing a sheet set for landscape using "Normal" margin setting.

The printer printed out the document with a 4cm margin left and a 1cm margin right.

Hi @MhSo1 ,

Thank you for responding,

It's great to have you back 😉

Did you try copying? Does it gives out the same issue with copy as well?

Also goto "printing preferences" and make sure the settings are correct. 🙂

Keep me posted. 😉

HI Brachiel

It's the 8210 which is jutst a printer so can't copy.

Where do I find printing prefernces?

It seems to keep wanting to print "Letter" size which is not generally available here in the UK.

It seems to default to US settings since I had to do a reinstall after replacing the hard drive on the Laptop.

Printer worked fine until I tried to install the online updates which seemed to automatically revert to US standard paper size.
I now know what to look out for.
