Welcome to the HP User Community.
If I understand what you mean by "hard stock" paper, then
What you say is true:
The printer does not support "hard" paper.
Any paper that exceeds the supported paper weights will not print - might print but jam - might partially print - might just refuse to accept the job based on incompatible settings in the software.

Reminder:
"Card" Paper as described is defined as "Index" paper - this is an ISO standard for paper type manufacturing.
Index paper is not the same thing as Card Stock.

note:Output tray capacity is affected by the type of paper and the amount of ink you use. HP recommends that you empty the output tray frequently.

Envelopes | 75 to 90 g/m2 (20 to 24 lb bond envelope) | Up to 30 envelopes | |
Cards | Up to 200 g/m2 (110 lb index) | Up to 80 cards |
What else?
Print age and condition impacts how the printer handles supported paper.
For example,
Printer age can affect the rollers (normal wear and tear)
Printer might be dirty - this can cause stickiness, jamming, and partial printing issues
