Printer will not recognize envelope in tray

Trying to print envelope from Word.  Put envelope in tray, change paper type to Envelope #10, keep getting error message on printer screen "mismatched paper type"

The following solution assumes / requires (that) the Full Feature Software / full driver software is installed.

Load Envelope

• Inkjet printers with a front load tray: Front of envelope facing down and the flap to the left

Immediately alert the printer to the paper size / paper type in the tray.

The message might indicate the paper size / type needs to be "edited" / "modified" / "retained".

Make the change to the #10 Envelope > accept the change

If the printer is on the network...

You might also (instead) be able to use the Embedded Web Server (EWS) to configure / view the settings in your printer, including those for Tray and Paper Management.

Next,

Create the envelope

Example - Word > Mailings > Envelopes

Note the comment regarding treating the envelope as if it is a custom size.

What else?

If all else fails,

The envelope can be hand created in Word as a document and then printed.

It was suggested to hand create envelope in word as a document and then print.  But I can figure our how to do this.

The example shows a Word document that has had Text Boxes placed at strategic locations to act like the Return and Delivery address labels. 

I guess you could start by creating a new Word document.

Practice how to place and use Text Boxes.

Use the following guide from Microsoft to learn about Text Boxes:

Add, copy, or remove a text box in Word 

Keep the Text boxes close to the top of the document, say in the upper 1/3 of the "page space".

Next, when you have Text Boxes mastered,

Start a new document and set the Page Size to the size and shape of your envelope.

Be sure to set the Margins to "Narrow" - most printers accommodate a 1/2 margin.

OR

In the practice document, change the size of the document page to match the the size of the envelope you want to create - then move the text boxes to the locations that make sense for the return and delivery labels.

Use Publisher to create a document in the size / shape of your envelope.
