My printer appears to be stuck in “Shutting Down” mode.

I’ve already tried unplugging it from the power source and plugging it back in, as well as using the power button, but nothing has worked.

Currently, the display shows “Shutting Down”, the power light is off, the battery light is orange, and the Wi-Fi light is blue.

Hi @VerbT,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand your HP printer is stuck in the "Shutting Down" mode with the power light off, battery light orange, and Wi-Fi light blue. Try the following troubleshooting steps:

Power Reset:

  • Disconnect the power cord from the printer and from the wall outlet.

  • Wait for at least 60 seconds.

  • While the printer is unplugged, press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds to eliminate any residual electrical charge.

  • Reconnect the power cord to the wall outlet first, then to the printer.

  • Press the power button to turn on the printer.

Check the Power Source:

  • Ensure that the power outlet is functioning correctly by plugging in another device to verify the socket’s power supply.

  • If using a power strip, try plugging the printer directly into the wall outlet to rule out issues with the power strip.

Examine the Battery:

  • If your printer model is equipped with a battery, check the battery by removing it (if possible) and running the printer directly from a power outlet.

  • Reinstall or replace the battery if necessary.

Check for Paper Jams and Obstructions:

  • Open all access doors and trays to check for any paper jams or foreign objects that might be causing the printer to malfunction.

Update Firmware:

  • Ensure that your printer’s firmware is updated. Check HP's Official HP® Support for any available firmware updates for your printer model.

    I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
