I have a colour laser jet printer Color LaserJet Pro M254dw.  It is connected wirelessly to the internet but refuses to print saying "printer-error". I have tired the scan doctor several times to no effect.  Toner is low but that should make little difference?  it is only the colour ink that is low.

Hi @Bridget57,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing issues with your HP Color LaserJet Pro M254dw printer. When you see the "printer-error" message on your computer, it indicates that there is a problem with the printer. Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the issue.

  • Check connections: Ensure that the printer is properly connected to your computer via USB or over the network if it's a wireless printer. Make sure the cables are securely plugged in.
  • Restart the printer: Power off the printer, wait for a few seconds, and then turn it back on. Sometimes a simple restart can fix temporary glitches.
  • Update printer drivers: Outdated or incompatible printer drivers can cause errors. Visit the HP support website and download the latest drivers for your printer model. Install the drivers on your computer and see if it resolves the issue.
  • Clear print queue: Sometimes, a stuck print job can cause the printer to display an error. Open the print queue on your computer and cancel all pending print jobs. Then try printing a new document to see if it works.
  • Reset the printer: If the above steps don't work, you can try resetting the printer to its default settings. Refer to the printer's user manual for instructions on how to perform a reset. Keep in mind that this may erase any custom settings you have configured.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
