Hi @Amsinger,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thanks for sharing the details — the error you’re seeing on macOS Sonoma 14.6.1 combined with a subscription-based HP printer, suggests a few potential causes, especially if it was used to print despite the error, and now has stopped entirely.

Here’s a step-by-step to try and resolve the issue.

1. Reset the Printing System

This clears out old or corrupted drivers:

  • Go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners
  • Right-click (or Control-click) in the printer list
  • Select Reset Printing System
  • Re-add your printer using the “+” button

2. Reinstall the HP Smart App

3. Update Printer Firmware

  • Open the HP Smart app
  • Go to Settings > Advanced Settings > Tools > Printer Updates
  • Install any available firmware updates

4. Use AirPrint Instead of HP Driver

  • Remove the printer from Printers & Scanners
  • Re-add it, but under “Use:”, select AirPrint instead of the HP driver

5. Check for Expired Security Certificates

  • In HP Smart, go to Settings > Advanced Settings
  • If prompted to update security certificates, follow the instructions

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
