Hi Everyone,
I have had the HP Office Jet Pro 8710 for a while now and it has recently started giving me issues, seemingly software issues where it would fail to print certain text in a predictable pattern that seems random at first glance. I found a work around to the strange issue but it was never solved.
A few days ago it started to refuse to print altogether. The job will go through, the printer will say that it is printing but it will not do anything at all. The printer will not make any noise or do anything at all - normally you can hear it taking in paper and getting situated before it begins printing (I am not a printer myself so I can only guess what it is doing lol). I does not even prepare itself to print. It says that it is printing on the printer itself, my computer also tells me that it is printing, but nothing at all happens. The print job remains in the queue saying "printing page 9" and it never changes. When you cancel the job the printer DOES make a noise, arranging itself noisily but it ultimately results in nothing. It also refuses to read any of my ink levels now for some reason. they all are displaying a caution symbol when I am certain that at least the black is nearly 100% full.
I have done everything I can think of and then looked online for anything I can possibly do to fix this darn thing. Plug, unplug, update, restore to factory settings, update from there, tried to print wired (not supported on my device), removed printer from "my printers" and re-added, ran hp easy start to install new drivers, used hp smart to diagnose any issues (there weren't any detected), used the hp chatbot and followed all prompts to "repair" the issue, tried printing from a different computer, printing different documents, different paper, printing from a different program, I am at my wit's end here.
Please send over any recommendations you have and I will gladly try it out! Thank you for being a supportive community 🙂

Hi @printerissues31,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to assist you.
I understand you're experiencing an issue with printing on your printer.
I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused, I'm here to help you today.
Please follow the steps below to fix the issue.
A) Perform a power drain.
1) Take out the cartridges
2) Unplug the power cord from the printer & wall.
3) Press and hold the power button down for 15 seconds and release the power button, wait for about 30 seconds.
4) Plug the power cord back into the printer and wall, ensure the printer is plugged into the wall & not into a surge protector.
5) Insert the cartridges back into the printer.
Remove the cartridges > Unplug the power cord > Wait for 30 seconds > Plug the power cord back in > Insert the cartridges
B) Kindly refer to the steps on this link to update the printer firmware and let me know if that resolves the issue.
C) If the issue still persists, uninstall the printer software by following the steps from this link and restart the devices.
D) Install the printer software by clicking on the link again and let me know if that resolves the issue.
Note: Enable Bluetooth for an HP Smart app setup: Enable Bluetooth on your computer or mobile device so that HP Smart can detect the printer during the setup.
Please mark this post as “Accepted Solution” if the issue is resolved and if you feel this reply was helpful click “Yes”.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day
