HP Envy 6000

The printer will not print black.  It never has.  I have gone through all of your diagnostic suggestions and still no black.

There has to be a solution, so help me find it.

Hi @LAURIEBEN,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding printer not printing black!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I get how frustrating this is, and we’ll get it sorted. Since your printer has never printed black, it could be a hardware issue, but let’s rule out everything else first.

Try These Steps:

Check the Ink Levels

  • Even if the black cartridge is full, try replacing it with a new one (or a different one if you have a spare). Some printers don’t recognize refilled or third-party cartridges properly.

Run a Nozzle Check & Printhead Cleaning

  • Go to your printer settings and run a nozzle check.
  • If black doesn’t appear, run the "Deep Cleaning" option 2–3 times.

Align the Printhead

  • Misalignment can cause black ink issues. Run the "Printhead Alignment" tool in the printer settings.

Check for Clogged Printheads

  • If deep cleaning doesn’t work, remove the black ink cartridge and inspect the printhead for dried ink.
  • Try manually cleaning the printhead:
    • Remove the printhead and soak it in warm, distilled water for 10–15 minutes.
    • Let it dry completely before reinstalling.

Check Printer Settings

  • Go to "Printer Preferences" and make sure black ink isn't disabled.
  • Set the print quality to Best instead of Normal or Draft mode.

Update or Reinstall Printer Drivers

  • Go to HP’s official website, download the latest drivers, and reinstall them.

Try Printing a Different Document

  • If black doesn’t work in one file, try printing a plain black text document.

If none of these work, it could be a faulty printhead or hardware issue. Let me know what you've tried so far, and we’ll take it from there!

I'm glad I could help! 😊 If this resolved your issue, please mark it as "Accepted Solution" and click "Yes" on "Was this reply helpful?"—your feedback not only keeps us going but also helps others find the solution faster! 👍
