I fixed this problem before but now I can't remember how! Each time I print I have to restart the printer and the (Can't communicate with printer) goes away and it prints OK but the next time I print it does the same thing.

Hi @vietvet7071,
Thanks for visiting the HP community. A very good day to you! I read the post regarding issues with having to restart the printer each time to establish a communication. I will be delighted to assist you here.
You’ve done an excellent job of diagnosing the issue from your end. Superb effort and spectacular research were done as well. Kudos to you on that score. 🙂 I take it as a privilege to share this platform with you.
For better clarity and to assist you better I would require more information regarding this:
- Did this happen after a power outage or surge?
- Do you get any error messages?
For now, try these steps:
- Perform a hard reset on the printer from this link: http://hp.care/2jxGDlW and perform only step 1 for a hard reset.
- Then check if the issue gets corrected. If it continues, run HP print and scan doctor from this link: http://hp.care/2b4bUIM and check if the issue gets fixed without restarting the printer.
- If the problem continues, then update the printer’s firmware from this link: http://hp.care/2rHKwDD and follow instructions on how to do it.
- Now check for issue resolution.
- If the issue persists, then assign a static IP address to the printer by following steps from http://hp.care/2tV7I4y this video.
This will definitely fix the issue,
Please perform all these steps patiently as it is critical to resolving the issue. This should do the trick for you.
Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!
To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles.
Take care and have a superb week ahead. 🙂

Hello!
I am experiencing similar problems as the original poster.
I have HP ENVY 4520 which was working fine until I installed a new Gateway Router supplied by Verizon. Now, I can't print. As soon as I reset the printer, it will work for one job, then the network connection appears to be lost although the printer still says it is connected.
I have done a hard restart on the printer, restarted the router, and restarted my Mac. I have tried to update my drivers and apparently there are new no updates available for me.
I have gone through all the above steps (with the exception of the printer scan as I have a Mac and can't find a source for that OS).
Please help! I love my printer and it's so frustrating to have to restart each time. I also am not able to use the AirPrint option from my other Apple devices.
Thanks!

I have the same problem. I have MEDIACOM internet service, and I noticed I was having problems BEFORE they replaced my router. Now, each time I go to use my HP printer (I even bought a new 8620 to replace the 8600 Pro, thinking it was a sick printer) the printer will not print; I get an error on my HP laptop stating the printer is offline, though when I go to the control panel on the printer and print a spec sheet regarding the wifi set up, it shows it is online. All the help notes I read state I need to reset my router.
Any idea what I can do? I have not tried assigning a new IP address to the printer. I called Mediacom, and they said it is not their problem. I evidently have internet connection for my ROKU tv is working fine.
