I have an HP smart tank 5000 printer. Whenever I try to print from it, it tells me the printer is busy and it won’t print. How do I fix this?

Hi @Hmsfoley,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding the "Printer Busy" error on the HP Smart Tank 5000!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Restart the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer by pressing the power button.
  • Unplug the printer from the power source.
  • Wait for about 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.

Check for Pending Print Jobs:

  • On your computer, go to the printer settings and locate the print queue.
  • Cancel any pending or stuck print jobs as they might be blocking new print requests.

Check Connection:

  • Ensure the printer is properly connected to your computer or network. For USB connections, make sure the cable is securely plugged in. For wireless connections, ensure the printer is connected to the correct network.

Update Printer Driver:

  • Ensure that the printer's driver is up to date. You can download the latest drivers from the HP Support website.

Perform a Printer Reset:

  • If restarting does not work, try restoring the printer to its default settings. This can often resolve any configuration issues causing the "busy" status.

Check for Errors on the Printer Screen:

  • Sometimes, error messages displayed physically on the printer can provide clues to what's wrong, such as paper jams or low ink levels.

Use HP Smart App:

  • Use the HP Smart app to check the printer’s status and troubleshoot issues.
  • The app can provide diagnostics and solutions tailored to your printer model.

I hope this helps.
