Moved house and printer was working fine before move, I put printer in car carried it into the new house pluged it in and it worked fine. Changed the cartridge when ink ran low with a genuine cartridge bought from Curry's. Now printer won't print. Error message states cartridge isn'e installed. Tried putting old cartridge back in but still error message states no cartridge is installed.

What is wrong?

Let me take a moment to thank you for posting on the HP Support Forums.

I came across your post and would like to help.

I understand that you have an HP ENVY 5640 e-All-in-One Printer and it does not recognize the new and the old ink cartridges.

Is it the black or the tri color cartridge that is not being recognized?

Please follow the below steps to isolate and fix the issue:

  • Disconnect the power cable from the printer while the printer is still ON.
  • Disconnect any other cables if connected the printer.
  • Press and hold the printer’s power button for 15 seconds.
  • The printer should be directly connected to the wall outlet and not to a surge protector.
  • Reconnect the power cable to print and the printer should power ON by itself. If the printer doesn’t power ON then please manually power it ON.

If the problem persists then please follow the below steps from this HP document: http://hp.care/2FVE3vG

  • Solution two: Remove, inspect, and reseat the cartridges.
  • Solution three: Clean the electrical contacts.
  • Solution four: Remove, inspect, and reinsert the cartridges again.
  • Solution five: Clean the electrical contacts again.

I sincerely hope this fixes the issue. Keep me posted. I'll be glad to assist you.

Cheers! 🙂
