Hi @Kellistout,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The error code 0005F BB6 on your HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 indicates a hardware issue that's causing the printer to fail in its startup process. Here’s what you can do to troubleshoot and potentially resolve this issue:
Steps to Resolve Error Code 0005F BB6
Perform a Power Reset:
- Unplug the power cord from the printer while it is turned on.
- Wait at least 60 seconds to allow the printer to completely power down.
- Plug the power cord back into the printer and turn it on.
- Check if the printer boots up without displaying the error code.
Update Firmware:
- Ensure that your printer has the latest firmware installed. Firmware updates often include fixes for known issues and bugs.
- To update the firmware:
- Go to the HP Support website and enter your printer model number.
- Download the latest firmware available for your printer model.
- Follow the instructions provided on the HP website to install the firmware update.
Check for Paper Jams or Obstructions:
- Even if the printer is not indicating a paper jam, open the printer and check for any stuck paper or foreign objects that could be causing the error.
Check Ink Cartridges:
- Ensure that all ink cartridges are properly installed and that there are no errors related to ink levels or cartridge installation.
Perform a Partial Reset (if needed):
- If the issue persists, you may need to perform a partial reset on the printer. This process will reset the printer to its default settings without affecting your wireless network settings.
- On the printer control panel, navigate to Settings or Setup.
- Find the option to perform a partial reset (refer to your printer’s manual if needed).
- Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the reset.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
