I was in the middle of a larger print job, and my printer randomly shut off, and there was a slight burning smell. I checked all over and no smoke coming from anywhere. I have tried everything, resetting it, unplugging it, etc. It will not turn on.

Hi @Ruthie26,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I see that your Printer is not powering on.
- Please follow the steps below to perform a power drain on the printer.
1) Take out the cartridges
2) Unplug the power cord from the printer & wall.
3) Press and hold the power button down for 15 seconds and release the power button, wait for about 30 seconds.
4) Plug the power cord back into the printer and wall outlet directly, ensure the printer is plugged into the wall & not into a surge protector.
5) Insert the cartridges back into the printer.
Remove the cartridges > Unplug the power cord > Wait for 30 seconds > Plug the power cord back in > Insert the cartridges
- Update the printer firmware by clicking on this link if the printer turns on.
- If the issue still persists, try with an alternate power cable that is compatible with your printer.
Please mark this post as “Accepted Solution” if the issue is resolved and if you feel this reply was helpful click “Yes”.
I hope this helps.

Some odour is not unusual during a large print job but if the device has shut down and will not turn on again then one possible issue is a failed power supply. I have seen a few fail in the past couple of years. If it comes back on and works then it may just be overheated toner that you smell.
