Hi @Nacole1
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The "Problem with the supply system" error on your HP OfficeJet Pro 8720 can be caused by a variety of issues related to the ink cartridges, printhead, or other internal components. Here are the steps you can take to troubleshoot and hopefully resolve the problem:
Step-by-Step Troubleshooting for "Problem with the Supply System"
1. Check the Ink Cartridges
- Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Open the printer’s ink cartridge access door.
- Remove the ink cartridges carefully and check if they are properly seated. If any of the cartridges are loose or improperly installed, reseat them.
- Check the ink cartridges for any signs of damage or leaks. If any cartridges appear damaged, you might need to replace them.
- Clean the contacts on both the ink cartridges and the cartridge holder inside the printer with a soft, lint-free cloth. Be gentle and avoid touching the ink nozzles or electrical contacts.
- Reinstall the ink cartridges and close the access door.
2. Check for Printhead Issues
A clogged or misaligned printhead could also be the cause of this error.
Remove and clean the printhead:
- Turn off the printer and unplug it.
- Open the ink cartridge access door and carefully remove the printhead (you may need to release a latch or lever to do so).
- Use a soft, lint-free cloth lightly dampened with water to gently wipe the printhead.
- Reinstall the printhead and cartridges after cleaning.
Perform a printhead cleaning through the printer’s control panel:
- From the Home screen, navigate to Settings > Printer Maintenance and select Clean Printhead.
3. Reset the Printer
A reset can help clear any temporary issues with the supply system error.
- Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Wait for 30 seconds to 1 minute to ensure all internal components power down completely.
- Plug the printer back in and power it on.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
