I have the same error --> The printhead appears to be missing, not detected or incorrectly installed. Printerhead Error Code 0xc19a0040

Surprisingly as part of the debugging when I replace the catridge with an empty one, it does show an error message that I am using a pre-used catridge. So what do I do now?

To assist you with accurate information I would require more information regarding this:

  • Please provide the complete model# and product# of the printer to assist you correctly?

  • Did this happen after a power outage or surge?

Please furnish all these details for me to assist you correctly. It looks like a hardware issue for now.

Thanks for keeping us posted

It looks like you were interacting with DavidSMP, but he is out for the day & I'll be glad to help you out. I'm KrazyToad & I'm at your service.

Let's start with a Printer Reset

(1) Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.
(2) Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
(3) With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
(4) Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
(5) Wait at least 60 seconds.
(6) Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
NOTE: HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet.
(7) Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
(8) Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.

The printer might go through a warm-up period. The printer lights might flash, and the carriage might move.
Wait until the warm-up period finishes and your printer is idle and silent before you proceed

Hi @KrazyToad, Tried the exact sequence of actions even before I posted the first message because that is what I found on the forums. The outcome is still the same

For your benefit, I followed the same steps again and it still says the same (The printhead appears to be missing, not detected or incorrectly installed. Printerhead Error Code 0xc19a0040) One timethe Error Code switched to 0xc19a0044

I have the same issue, and doing the unplugging and such has not worked. The HP forums where I found the steps, to take after the unplugging idea is tried are not loading for whatever reason. I HAVE found several forums where it turns out this is a known HP problem with the 8600 series to the point that a class action suit was filed. I'd like to know if I have any options other than takign the printer in to Best Buy and seeing if they can fix it or not. I'd like the tutorial on how to remove and replace the printehead, as that is the last thing to try, but, as stated already, I can't find it online anymore.

It seem like this problem is unsolved. Anyone can help?

Same issue here.   Has anyone from HP Support provided an actual solution?
