HP ENVY 6458e All-in-One Printer

Good evening.  This is my first time using the HP Support Community.

My printer prints blank black & color pages.  It goes through the motions of printing, but the page is blank.  I tried cleaning the Printhead utility in my HP Smart app, but it fails to clean the printheads.  I click on the Clean Printhead Command, but System error message says "Printer error.  Resolve, then try again."  No Printer or Supply errors are reported in the HP Smart printer status utility.  All printer drivers and firmware are up to date.  What can I try next?

Hi @AZJean,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

When your HP ENVY 6458e All-in-One Printer prints blank pages and the printhead cleaning utility fails, here are several steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue.

Manual Printhead Cleaning

  • Remove the Ink Cartridges: Turn off the printer, open the ink cartridge access door, and carefully remove the ink cartridges.
  • Clean the Printhead Contacts: Gently clean the copper-colored contacts on the cartridges and the corresponding contacts in the printer using a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water.
  • Reinstall the Cartridges: Allow the contacts to dry for a few minutes, then reinstall the cartridges and close the access door.

Power Cycle the Printer

  • Turn off the Printer: Disconnect the printer from the power source.
  • Wait for 60 seconds: Leave the printer unplugged for at least a minute to clear any temporary faults.
  • Plug the Printer Back In: Reconnect the printer to the power source and turn it on.

Run the Printhead Cleaning Utility Again

  • Try Cleaning Again: After performing a manual clean, try running the printhead cleaning utility from the HP Smart app again.

Check for Clogged Nozzles

  • Print a Test Page: Attempt to print a test page to see if any ink is coming through. If the print is faint or missing colors, you may have clogged nozzles.
  • Perform a Second Cleaning: If the test page indicates an issue, you may need to run the cleaning utility multiple times.

Try a Different Cartridge

  • Install a New Cartridge: Sometimes, the issue can be due to a defective ink cartridge. If possible, try using a new set of cartridges to see if the problem is resolved.

Check Printer Settings

  • Ensure Correct Paper and Quality Settings: Make sure the paper type and print quality settings are correctly configured in the printer settings.

Reset the Printer

  • Perform a Factory Reset: If none of the above steps work, you may want to try a factory reset.

Following these steps should help you diagnose and potentially fix the issue with your HP ENVY 6458e printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
