The Clean Printhead is not an option on my screen, and the black ink has streaks that are preventing a readable document.

Hi @gfnovo,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

We understand how frustrating it is when your HP ENVY Photo 7855 prints with black ink streaks and the “Clean Printhead” option is missing from the screen. Let’s walk through the steps to resolve this issue and restore your print quality.

Option 1: Access Cleaning via Control Panel

Sometimes the cleaning option is hidden under a different menu.

  1. On the printer’s touchscreen, tap the Setup icon (gear ⚙️).
  2. Go to Printer Maintenance or Tools.
  3. Look for Clean Printhead or Print Quality Tools.
  4. If available, run the cleaning cycle and print a test page.
  5. Repeat up to three times if needed.

If this option is still not visible, proceed to manual cleaning.

Option 2: Manual Printhead Cleaning

⚠️ Be gentle, this involves cleaning sensitive components.

Step 1: Remove Ink Cartridges

  • Turn on the printer.
  • Open the cartridge access door.
  • Wait for the carriage to move to the center.
  • Remove the cartridges and place them on a clean, lint-free surface with the nozzles facing up.

Step 2: Clean Cartridge Contacts

  • Use a lint-free cloth dampened with distilled water.
  • Gently wipe the copper-colored contacts on the cartridges.
  • Avoid touching the nozzles directly.

Step 3: Clean Printhead Contacts

  • Use the same cloth to gently clean the contacts inside the printer where the cartridges sit.
  • Let everything dry for a few minutes.

Step 4: Reinstall Cartridges

  • Reinsert the cartridges into their correct slots.
  • Close the access door and try printing again.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
