HP Smart Tank 750 All-in-One
Microsoft Windows 11

My Smart Tank 750 all in one literally just did the same thing. "Missing or Failed Printhead message". Does this mean I have to get a new printer or is there any other solution? The printer has only been used for 3 months and is already experiencing a problem with the printhead being missing. I am from Malaysia

Hi @smart750,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thank you for reaching out regarding your HP Smart Tank 750 and the "Missing or Failed Printhead" message you are seeing. We understand how frustrating it is to encounter this issue after only a few months of use.

This error usually indicates that the printer is not detecting the printhead properly. It could be due to a printhead installation problem, clogged contacts, or a hardware defect.

Please try the following steps before considering replacement:

  1. Power Cycle the Printer
    • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
    • Wait about 60 seconds, then plug it back in and power it on.

  2. Reseat the Printhead
    • Open the printer’s ink access door.
    • Carefully remove the printhead, then reinstall it firmly, ensuring it clicks into place correctly.

  3. Clean the Printhead Contacts
    • With the printhead removed, gently clean the copper contacts on the printhead and inside the printer using a lint-free cloth dampened with distilled water or isopropyl alcohol.
    • Let them dry completely before reinstalling.

  4. Run Printer Diagnostic and Alignment
    • Use the HP Smart app or printer control panel to run printhead cleaning and alignment utilities.

  5. Update Printer Firmware
    • Make sure your printer has the latest firmware installed via the HP Smart app or HP’s support website.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hi @smart750,

Sorry to hear that after replacing the printhead, the printer turned off. Please make sure you try the Hard reset, but keep the printhead out and insert only when the printer is on and check once.

Please remove the Cartridges from the Printer if possible, and try a Hard Reset. Do keep us posted to help you better

** Hard reset:
1. Turn the printer on if it is not already on.
2. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
3. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
4. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
5. Wait at least 60 seconds.
6. Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
NOTE: HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet.
7. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
8. Turn on the printer if it does not automatically turn on. The printer might go through a warm-up period. The printer lights might flash, and the carriage might move.
9. Wait until the warm-up period finishes and your printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

 I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
