Hi @BGibson3483,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP printer is displaying a printhead issue and you're unable to print or perform maintenance tasks like cleaning the printheads, here are steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the problem:

Step 1: Check for Error Messages

  1. Review Error Codes: Look at the printer display for any specific error codes or messages that could provide more context for the printhead issue.

Step 2: Power Cycle the Printer

  1. Turn Off: Power off the printer and unplug it from the wall.
  2. Wait: Leave it unplugged for at least 60 seconds.
  3. Plug Back In: Reconnect the power cord and turn the printer back on. Check if the error persists.

Step 3: Check the Printhead

  1. Access the Printhead: Open the printer's access door to reach the printhead and cartridges.
  2. Remove and Inspect: Carefully remove the printhead (if removable) and check for any visible damage, obstructions, or ink buildup.
  3. Clean Contacts: Clean the electrical contacts on the printhead and the inside of the printer using a lint-free cloth or cotton swab lightly moistened with distilled water. Allow everything to dry completely before reinstalling.

Step 4: Reinstall Ink Cartridges

  1. Remove Cartridges: Take out the ink cartridges and inspect them for any damage or leakage.
  2. Reinsert Cartridges: Reinstall the cartridges carefully, ensuring they are seated properly.

Step 5: Perform a Reset

  1. Factory Reset: If you have access to the printer menu, try performing a factory reset. Check your user manual for specific instructions.

Step 6: Update Printer Firmware

  1. Check for Firmware Updates: Go to the HP Support website and see if there are any firmware updates available for your printer model. Install any updates if available.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
