Have a HP officejet 8725 with printer head issue. Tells me it is missing, not detected or incorrectly installed. HP on line help has not resolved the issue.

Need to respond to Edited  email on record is long gone

Printer head missing or not detected. Have powered on and off many times. Removed and replaced all the HP cartridges multiple times. Has not resolved the issue. Is the printer no longer going to function?

Hi @ken_rfl,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

I  understand how  it can be when your printer suddenly refuses to recognize the printhead, especially when you’ve already tried the online help steps.

Here are a few specific steps you can try right away:

  1. Power reset: Turn off the printer, unplug the power cord from both the printer and the wall outlet, wait at least 60 seconds, then reconnect and power it back on.
  2. Reseat the printhead: Open the printer cover, carefully remove the printhead, check for any debris or ink buildup, and firmly reinstall it. Make sure it clicks into place.
  3. Clean the electrical contacts: Use a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water to gently clean the copper-colored contacts on the printhead and inside the carriage. Let them dry before reinstalling.
  4. Update firmware: Outdated firmware can sometimes cause detection errors. Check HP’s support website - https://support.hp.com/ for the latest update for your model.
  5. Run printer diagnostics: HP provides a HP Smart App tool that can automatically detect and fix common issues.

If the error persists after these steps, the printhead itself may need replacement, but let’s try the resets and cleaning first.

I hope this helps.
