I keep getting printhead problem, I have done all steps told to do from HP support. I noticed that the black ink line that goes to print head is empty and not full like the other colors. Is my printer defective?

@tonya54, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

If you are experiencing printhead problems with your HP Smart Tank 7602r printer, here are some steps to help troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

Determine the Problematic Printhead:

  • Check the printer’s control panel or software for error messages indicating specific printheads, such as the Tri-color or Black printhead. The blinking icon or error message will guide you.

Check Printhead Installation:

  • Ensure that the ink tanks are at least half full and paper is loaded in the input tray.
  • Lift the ink access door and wait for the carriage to stop moving.
  • Press the blue button on the printhead carriage to open the printhead cover.
  • Carefully remove the printhead with the error, holding it by the sides to prevent ink leakage. Ensure that any plugs or tape covering the printhead contacts have been removed.

Reinstall the Printhead:

  • Insert the printhead back into its slot at a slight upward angle and push up until it clicks into place.
  • Close the printhead cover and the ink access door.

Align the Printheads:

  • Follow the control panel prompts to print an Alignment Page, or if your printer doesn’t have a touchscreen, it will automatically print an Alignment Page. Follow the instructions on the page to align the printheads.

Reset the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer using the power button. If it doesn’t turn off, disconnect the power cord.
  • Wait for 60 seconds after unplugging the power cord, then reconnect it directly to a wall outlet and the printer.
  • Turn the printer back on to complete the reset process.

Also, i suggest you refer to this guide: Printhead errors on HP Smart Tank 670, 720, 750, or 790 printers | HP® Support

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
