HP Photosmart 7515
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I am trying to print pages from a PDF file from my HP Photosmart 7515 printer.  I am printing 2 pages per sheet (under "page size and handling" I have selected: multiple,  pages/sheet: custom 1 X 2, horizontal orientation, portrait, print on both sides of the paper ).  The left and right margins take up a lot of space, so I would like to reduce the margins, thus making the printable area larger and easier to see.    I don't have access to the original document used to make the PDF, so I can't alter the margins and make a new PDF document.  I see options for borderless printing, but no matter what choices I seem to make, the dialog box where you can make adjustments to the margins is grayed out with a value of 1".  Can anyone help me? Is there some combination of features that will "unlock" the grayed out margin dialog?

Thank you!

The following might work -- you may have to readjust the "percentage" setting a couple of times to get the content to show "just right" - not too big and not too small.

Open the PDF file in Adobe Reader DC

Click the print icon

Under Page Sizing & Handling

Click Custom Scale

Increase the scale (percentage) to just a bit greater than 100%, for example, try 105%

To update the "view" (on the right side of the print menu), select and then unselect "Choose paper source by PDF page size"

Once you get the "view" that includes the content but is "closer" to the edge, print just one page of the document to test the output.

Thank you so much for trying to help me.  I did as you said.  That option was only available in the "Size" tab of the Paper Size and Handling section.  The view automatically increased; however, when I switched to the  "Multiple" tab, that size increase didn't carry over to my view with 2 pages on one sheet.  I even went up to a 200% size increase.  The view and print-out retains the 1" border.  It seems like I need to find a combination to unlock the grayed out margin settings (found by clicking "Page Setup" in the lower left of that print screen). Or perhaps, does this mean this feature is not available on the HP Photoshop 7515 printer? In the advanced options for this printer, I tryed the option for borderless printing, and I've also selected "No"for "Preserve Layout" (in case Adobe was trying to force the margins).  Still, the margins settings are grayed out with 1".

According to a datasheet I found for the printer, borderless printing is supported.

photosmart 7515 - Webcollage.net

The Specifications document mentions nothing about which Media (kind of paper) and / or which paper size supports the borderless setting.  In general, at least standard size paper (Letter / A4 depending on your region) likely supports borderless, and perhaps at least the photo paper 4x6" and 5x7".

I am not confident that any of this helps your situation -- without access to the original document formatting, I am not sure how to manipulate the document to the extent it needs it.

It might be a compatibility issue - for example (At least in the Photosmart 7520),

  • Borderless appears not to be compatible with duplex.
  • Several paper sizes appear not to support borderless.

I could well be missing something --  I cannot get the print driver installed fully enough (I don't have the printer) to be able to test / see everything.

We'll ask an expert on the subject.  Smiling.  NOTE:  If there is a response, it may be delayed -- our Expert team is located in time zones all over the world.

I am not at all sure "this can be done" and I cannot test.

OP does not have access to the original docx format.

Any words of wisdom?

Hi,

Generally, would the original document have large right and left margins? can you see large margins shown in the Print Preview screen of Adobe Reader? click the Booklet tab under Page Size & Handling and review the print preview, if the original document print preview include these margins those will be printed too.. I would rather suggest to scroll the pages to preview a page where you can clearly see 2 quite fully printed pages..

The print will always include the margins set for the document and depands of the document design, when you do not have the original PDF with editing capabilities via Adobe Pro you will  be more limited, these are controll by the original document settings and not by the printer driver.

To add to the previous discussion, borderless printing is only supported on selected media indeed, a such is only supported on Photo Paper and not supported on duplex printing, you will not see any different as the borderless printing won't apply for such a setup of auto duplexing on plain paper.

Hope that halps,

Shlomi

Thank you for your help.  The original document printed in landscape has 22mm and 27mm left and right margins, respectively.  When I print as a custom 1X 2 (2 pages on 1 sheet in a portrait orientation) the margins are 28mm and 33mm left and right.  So, as the margins increase further, it effectively shrinks the document even more.

Sounds like it's not possible, so I will just have to live with it.  🙂

Thanks again.

You are welcome.

I have had to “live with” stuff I wish were otherwise.  It is not nearly as good as getting what I want.  :generic:
