Printing pages are blank, I was mid print when it printed the first page fine but the second page was blank. I have tried scanning and it’s still blank. I’ve done the diagnostics, cleaning options and all say it’s fine. I’ve rebooted the printer, removed cartridges and put back in. Nothing works. Ink is low but not empty, does not give replace  ink prompts. Any suggestions?

Thanks for your response,

kindly follow the below steps:

Use Genuine HP Cartridges

  • If you’re using third-party or refilled cartridges, they might not be fully compatible with HP’s ink system.
  • Try using genuine HP cartridges if you haven’t already.

Clean the Printhead Manually

Even though you’ve run the automatic cleaning cycle, sometimes a manual cleaning is more effective:

  1. Remove the cartridge and turn off the printer.
  2. Dampen a lint-free cloth with distilled water (or use an alcohol wipe).
  3. Gently clean the printhead nozzles where the ink comes out.
  4. Let it air dry for 5-10 minutes, then reinstall the cartridge.

 Reset the Printer

Sometimes, the printer misreads the ink levels after a large print job. Try a hard reset:

  1. Unplug the printer while it’s turned on.
  2. Wait 3-5 minutes.
  3. Plug it back in and restart it.

Check for Firmware Updates

  • Go to HP Support and check if there’s a firmware update for your printer model.
  • New updates often fix cartridge recognition issues.

 Use the Printer More Often

  • If the printer sits unused for too long, ink can dry up in the nozzles.
  • Try printing a test page at least once a week to keep the ink flowing.

@Brandi_girl73,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Check Ink Levels & Replace Cartridges (Even If Not Empty)

  • If ink is low but not empty, the cartridge may still be clogged or dry.
  • Manually check ink levels on the printer screen or in the HP Smart app.
  • If possible, replace the ink cartridges with new ones to test if the issue resolves.

 Perform a Hard Reset

  1. Turn off the printer and unplug it from power.
  2. Wait 2-3 minutes to clear internal memory.
  3. Plug it back in and turn it on.
  4. Try printing again.

Run a Printhead Cleaning Cycle

  1. On the printer touchscreen, go to:
    • Setup > Printer Maintenance > Clean Printhead
  2. Run the cleaning twice if needed, as the first cycle may not be enough.
  3. Print a test page to check if ink appears.

Perform a Manual Printhead Cleaning

  1. Remove the ink cartridges.
  2. Use a lint-free cloth dampened with warm water to wipe the copper contacts on the cartridges.
  3. Let them dry for a few minutes, reinstall them, and restart the printer.

Try Printing in Different Colors & Bypass Empty Cartridges

  • If black ink is not printing, try printing in color to see if it's an issue with just one cartridge.
  • If your printer has an option to "Print in Grayscale", turn it off and try again.

Update Printer Firmware & Drivers

  1. Visit HP’s support site and download the latest firmware update for your printer model.
  2. Update your printer drivers on your computer via HP Smart or Device Manager (Windows)
  3. Perform a Factory Reset
  4. Go to: Setup > Printer Maintenance > Restore Defaults.
  5. Select Restore Factory Defaults and confirm.
  6. Reconfigure your printer and try printing again.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hello,

Thanks for reaching out! I did all of these and in the end I replaced the cartridge and that worked finally. I printed out a project (about 65 pages) and it did it again, so I replaced the cartridge for the second time in 2 days. It did work again but I’m hoping I won’t have to replace the cartridge every time I use it. Any suggestions?
