Mid printing I rec'd the replace black cartridge message, which I did. Surprisingly it restarted the print without the usual realignment process. But, on the next pages blank horizontal lines appeared across pictures, and the top, or bottom half of narrative lines were missing. At the end of the job it prompted the realignment procedure, which I processed without receiving a fail report. I then tested printing one page again, resulting in the same error within the print! Apart from the "change cartridge" message, i have not rec'd any messages, error or otherwise. As the colour cartridge was showing quite low, I changed that too - which elicited the realignment process again, but the printing error has continued. I have also run "clean printhead a few times, in vain also. Have also refitted the two cartridges again without remedying the problem. Even the "Print Quality Report "was printed with the same half- horizontal-line missing..
The printer is well out of Warranty but has not been over-used - under 100 sheets per month.
Any suggestions will be gratefully received..

Hi @Doougie,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If you're experiencing printing errors after replacing the black cartridge in your HP Envy 4507 e-All-In-One printer, there are several troubleshooting steps you can follow to resolve the issue. Here's a step-by-step guide.
Check Cartridge Installation:
- Make sure the new black cartridge is properly installed. Ensure it's securely clicked into place and that there are no protective tape or stickers left on the cartridge.
Printer Alignment:
- Sometimes, after replacing a cartridge, the printer may need to align the printheads. Check if your printer has an alignment feature in its settings and follow the on-screen instructions.
Printer Reset:
- Turn off your printer, unplug it from the power source, and wait for about 60 seconds. Plug it back in and turn it on. This can sometimes clear up minor printing issues.
Check Ink Levels:
- Ensure that the new black cartridge has sufficient ink. Your printer may not print if the ink levels are too low.
Clean Printheads:
- The printheads could be clogged. Most printers have a utility for cleaning printheads. Check your printer's manual or settings to run a printhead cleaning cycle.
Update Printer Drivers:
- Outdated or corrupted printer drivers can cause printing issues. Go to the HP website and make sure you have the latest drivers installed for your printer model.
Paper Quality and Size:
- Ensure you are using the correct paper type and size as specified in your printer's manual. Incorrect paper settings can lead to printing problems.
Check for Error Messages:
- Look for any error messages or codes on the printer's display or on your computer. These messages can provide clues about the specific issue.
Reboot Your Computer:
- Sometimes, a simple computer restart can resolve communication issues between the computer and the printer.
Test Print:
- Print a test page to see if the problem persists. Most printers have a test page option in their settings.
Check for Firmware Updates:
- Ensure your printer's firmware is up to date. HP releases firmware updates to fix bugs and improve performance.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
