I have read all the forum questions on this subject about changing the settings for my printer to print in grayscale (black and white), but for some reason my printed pages still come out in slight color. Specifically, the gray parts of my paper come out in an ugly shade of pink.

Grayscale simply means printer will mix colors together to give black and white therefore it will print different color(s) when paper is not white.
You need to tell it to use Black Ink Only. The following steps are for a Windows machine but should be very similar under Mac OS
(a) Double click printer icon on desktop,
(b) Click Set Preferences,
(c) Click Advanced,
(d) Select "Black Ink only" for Print in Grayscale
(e) Click Ok/Apply ...
Note: Printer still needs all color inks and it will consume a very small amount of inks during warmng up process.
Regards.

Thank you for the clarification; that was very helpful. Can you show me how to set "Use Black Ink Only" For my Mac on HP Utility? I am running Sierra 10.12.5. The below are the settings that I see, and I can't find the Black Ink Only function.
